Product Details

A good example of a Welsh oak dresser dating from the late 18th / early 19th century and likely originating from the Swansea Valley region. The dresser has three drawers above an open potboard base with a nicely shaped frieze. Each drawer has its original turned knob and it stands on elegant chamfered shaped legs. It has its original plate rack with 3 open shelves with grooves for standing up plates and many of its original blacksmith made hooks.

It is an excellent quality piece and has been constructed from well figured timbers, particularly the single plank that forms the base of the potboard. There is also a nice row of 5 small spice drawers which have false fronts and are just for decoration.

It is in good original condition throughout and is strong and sturdy. It is not without some signs of age and use and some light marks and old stains on the surface but this has all helped to develop a beautiful rich patina over the years. The drawers are generally clean and tidy and all open smoothly. There is a small chip on the back of one knob and a minor old shrinkage split in the side of the rack but no major damages and nothing untoward. It has been given a clean and gentle polish and is ready for use.
