Georgian Oak Clerks Desk
A charming country oak clerk’s desk dating from the late 18th / early 19th Century. It has a sloped front with a small lip on the bottom. The top lifts up to reveal a series of small drawers around a central cupboard. Each drawer has its original brass handle and there is a charming old paper label on one for "receipts". Below the lift up top is a larger drawer with brass knobs. The desk does not come with any keys.
It is in good condition and the oak has developed a wonderful rich colour over the years. It has been cleaned and gently polished, retaining the original patina. The interior is in good condition with a few old marks and ink stains but nothing detrimental and the drawer opens smoothly. There are general signs of age and use, small old knocks, splits and marks but no major damages and the piece is strong and sturdy. There are signs of old woodworm in the back and the base of the drawer which has all been treated as a precaution.
