A lovely Aesthetic movement writing desk dating from the early 20th century. It has an attractive ebonised finish and an inset leather writing surface with gilt tooled edging. It is a stylish piece with an overhanging top supported by carved brackets. It has two drawers with brass handles and it stands on ring turned legs joined by a stretcher.
The maker's name "Maple & Co Ld" is stamped on the edge of one drawer.
It is a nice compact size, perfect as a side table or a small desk.
The desk is in good condition for its age. It is generally clean and tidy throughout, the drawers open smoothly and the writing surface is in good order. There are normal signs of light wear and age, some knocks and marks but nothing detrimental and it displays well. It has been gently cleaned and polished and is ready for use.
