Product Details

An original WWII era RAF Pilot's compass. The Astro-Compass MK II was primarily used for celestial navigation by pilots and navigators in RAF aircraft during WWII, including the Lancaster bomber. It allowed them to determine their precise position and true heading by measuring the angles between celestial bodies like the sun, moon, and stars, and the horizon.

The compass itself has its original black painted finish and a plaque which has all its parts and serial numbers. It also comes with an interesting article dated 1955 about the use of these compasses after the war.

It is in good condition for its age. It has picked up some knocks, surface scratches and signs of wear over the years but it displays nicely. I have not tested the compass for accuracy and it is sold as seen as a decorative / collectors piece.
