Product Details

A good example of a mid 19th Century 'double fold' writing slope. It is made of beautiful burr walnut with brass corner pieces, a brass cartouche and matching brass escutcheon and it comes with a working key.

Inside, the lid of the box is fitted with two shaped racks for storing letters or envelopes. It comes with a glass inkwell and there is a stamp slope and a pen tray. It has a lovely burr walnut surface which folds out again to a larger sloped writing surface with a deep red leather with gilt tooled edge. Both sections of the writing surface lift up to provide additional storage below.

It is in very good condition for its age. There are no major damages to the wood exterior and it has a beautiful patina. There are signs of age and use, some small knocks and marks and minor shrinkage splits but nothing detrimental and overall it displays well. The box is generally clean and tidy inside.
