Victorian Walnut Correspondence Box
A beautiful Victorian tabletop correspondence box dating from the late 19th Century. It is made of burr walnut with a lovely rich patina and decorated with ornate gilt brass studded mounts with white ceramic cabochons. It has two letter slots on the top beside ivorine labels "Unanswered" and "Answered". The interior is divided into two sections to correspond with the different slots and it comes with a working key.
It is in good original condition and displays beautifully. There are a few small knocks and marks around the outside and general signs of age and light use but nothing detrimental. The interior is lined with decorative red paper which has a few small stains and losses but nothing untoward and it is certainly a usable piece. The box has been cleaned and gently polished and is ready for use.
