Victorian Rosewood Writing Slope with Secret Drawers
A beautiful Victorian rosewood writing slope with brass corners, brass strapping and a matching brass cartouche and escutcheon.
Inside, the box is fitted with a black leather writing surface with a gilt tooled edge. It comes with a pair of brass topped glass inkwells and a pen tray next to a small stamp slope. There is a secret compartment with 2 small hidden drawers below the leather surface that springs open by lifting a piece of wood next to the inkwell. The box also comes with its original working key.
The box is in good condition for its age with a beautiful patina. The leather writing surface is in good order although it has worn along the crease. There are some minor old knocks and marks around the outside of the box, a few small chips and some minor shrinkage splits but nothing detrimental and overall it displays beautifully.
