Product Details

A good example of a Victorian writing slope dating from the mid to late 19th Century. It is made of rosewood and it has beautiful mother of pearl inlaid decoration on the top with strung borders and a round escutcheon. It also comes with a working key. It is stamped on the inside "Asprey, 166 Bond St".

The box has a good quality green leather writing surface with a gilt tooled border. It comes with a pair of brass topped glass inkwells and its original pen tray. Both top and bottom sections of the writing surface lift up to reveal extra storage space below. There is also a secret hidden drawer which springs out below the pen tray when the piece of wood beside it is lifted.

The box is in very good condition for its age with a beautiful patina. There are some general signs of age and use, some minor knocks and marks and some old shrinkage splits but nothing untoward or detrimental and the interior is clean and tidy.
