Victorian Mahogany Military Campaign Chest of Drawers
A superb example of a small military campaign chest dating from the late 19th century. It's made of mahogany with recessed brass handles, brass corner pieces and it stands on squat bun feet. The chest itself is a typical campaign design made in two parts with carrying handles for transport and there are small inset brass ferrules in the top which would have supported a folding gallery. Although there are no maker's marks or labels the design is in the style of Maynard & Co of London.
It is an excellent quality piece and the wood has a lovely rich patina. It is in very good condition and displays well. The oak lined drawers are generally clean and tidy and open smoothly. There are some signs of age and use, some small knocks and marks but nothing detrimental and no major damages. It has been cleaned and gently polished and is ready for use.
