Victorian Mahogany Campaign Writing Slope
A good example of a large Victorian writing slope. It is made of solid mahogany with recessed brass military style handles, brass strapping and a brass cartouche and escutcheon. The cartouche is engraved " C.D.Radford. 1842".
Inside, the box is fitted with a lovely green leather writing surface with a gilt tooled edge. It comes with two glass inkwells and there is also a pen tray and a stamp slope. There is a long drawer on the side of the box which is held in place by a brass pin. There is extra storage space below each section of the writing surface for paper or envelopes.
The box is in very good condition for its age. There are some signs of age and use, some small knocks and marks but there are no major damages to the wood exterior. The interior is clean and tidy and the leather is in good order. The inkwells are missing their lids and there is no key but overall the box is a good example and it displays beautifully.
