A good example of a Victorian Hydrometer, used to measure and regulate the alcohol content in drinks. The set comes with its original brass float and all 8 graduated weights (1 missing). It also comes with its original thermometer with maker's name "Negretti & Zambra London". Each of the weights is marked with the serial number 3490 and the maker's name is also on the lining below the lid.

The whole set comes in its original mahogany box with fitted lined interior. The box has a lovely rich patina and there is an inset plaque in the centre of the lid which reads "Th. Thurston".

It is in good condition for its age. There is some general tarnishing on the brasswork and general signs of age and use but no major damages. There are some marks and knocks around the outside of the box but overall it displays well.
