A gothic style oak stool dating from the mid to late 19th Century. The stool is excellent quality with a simple X-frame design with chamfered edges and wooden roundels, joined by a turned stretcher. It has a firm horse-hair stuffed seat covered in a good quality red fabric with contrasting studs that compliments the stool nicely. The upholstery is generally clean and tidy with a few minor marks but nothing detrimental and is perfectly usable as it is or could be recovered.
It is in good condition for its age and the wood has a lovely mellow colour which has been gently waxed to retain its natural aged patina. There are signs of age and use and some historic splits which have been repaired at some point but the frame is strong and sturdy and free from any major damages.
