Product Details

A beautiful velvet covered stationery box dating from the mid 19th Century. The outer of the box is covered in a lovely red velvet which has faded and worn over time giving a wonderful patina. It is adorned with ornate pierced gilt brass panels on the corners, around the lock and the top of the box around a central oval panel set with a mirror. The sloped lid opens up to reveal a silk lined interior with a series of racks for holding papers and letters and an ebonised pen tray. There is a small stitched label under the lid which reads "Long Gallery".

The box is in good original condition and there are no major damages. There are some general signs of age and use, some small marks around the outer box and some minor staining to the silk lining but overall it displays well. It does not come with a key. It has been cleaned and gently polished and is ready for use.
