Product Details

A fine example of a beautiful Victorian Lady's Vanity Box. The outer of the box is made of the finest quality rosewood which has been inlaid with a brass cartouche and brass escutcheon.

The box is fitted with 5 glass bottles - 2 large and 2 small glass bottles with glass stoppers and 1 with a silver plated lid. It is also fitted with 3 glass pots with silver plated lids. There is a velvet pad with 5 mother of pearl handles nail items and this lifts out to reveal a small storage compartment. The main interior of the box lifts out to reveal further storage space beneath to store items such as brushes or combs.

The lid of the box is lined in beautiful red touched velvet and it houses a mirror behind it and a document pocket.

There is a brass rod at the front of the box which when pulled up releases a drawer in the bottom of the box with a small recessed brass handle. The drawer is lined in red silk and fitted with a ring or earring holder section.

It is in good condition for its age and has been very well made and well looked after. There are some signs of age and use and some minor marks on the top where the polish has worn slightly but overall it displays beautifully with a lovely patina. The mirror has foxed over time and the glass plate is worn. Some of the silver plated lids have small dents and dinks in them and the plating has worn slightly in places. There are some small chips and nibbles around the tops of the bottles and one small glass bottle which has been used to store ink is cracked and chipped around the top (see photos). We do not have a key for the box.
