Product Details

A large Victorian writing slope made of beautiful coromandel wood with brass strapping, brass corner pieces and a matching brass cartouche and escutcheon. The box also has its original working Bramah lock and key.

Inside, the box is fitted with a dark blue leather writing surface with a gilt tooled edge. It comes with a pair of blue glass inkwells, a pen tray and there is a small lidded compartment. There is a long drawer on the side of the box which is held in place by a brass pin and there is extra storage space below each section of the writing surface for paper or envelopes. There is also a secret compartment with 3 small hidden drawers below the leather surface that springs open by lifting a piece of wood next to the inkwell.

The box is in very good condition for its age with a beautiful patina. The interior is clean and tidy and the leather writing surface is in good order. The inkwells are not original, there are some signs of age and use, some old knocks and marks around the outside of the box and some shrinkage splits but overall it displays well.
