A large and heavy cast iron book press dating from the mid to late 19th Century. It has a winding handle with brass knobs and the plate moves up and down on a large screw. It is painted black with nice gilt lined detail.
It is in good condition throughout and is strong and sturdy. There are some signs of use and age, some minor knocks and chips to the paint in places but nothing detrimental and it has a lovely patina. It winds up and down smoothly. It has been given a clean and a polish and is ready for use.
