A superb military campaign chest dating from the late 19th century. It's made of Camphor Wood with recessed brass handles, brass corner pieces and it stands on turned feet. The chest itself is a typical design, made in two parts joined by wooden pegs with large carrying handles on the sides. The feet are removable and are fixed in place on a brass thread.
It is an excellent quality piece and the wood has the most beautiful patina. It has original makers labels inside both top drawers for "AH FOO. Carpenter and Cabinet Maker, from Canton. It is in excellent condition and displays well. The drawers are generally clean and tidy and open smoothly. There are signs of age and use, some small knocks and marks but nothing detrimental. There have been a couple of minor repairs over the years but nothing untoward. It has been cleaned and gently polished and is ready for use.
