Victorian Burr Walnut Writing Slope
A beautiful Victorian writing slope dating from the mid to late 1800s. It is made of burr walnut with a lovely patina and brass cartouche.
The box is fitted with a good quality dark leather writing surface with a gilt tooled edge. It comes with a small glass inkwell and its original wooden pen tray. Both top and bottom sections of the writing surface lift up to reveal extra storage space below.
It is an excellent quality piece with a Bramah lock, although unfortunately we don't have a key. There is a retailer's label below one section for "Parkins & Gotto 24 & 25 Oxford St London".
The box is in very good condition for its age with a beautiful patina. There are some signs of age and use, some knocks and light marks and an old shrinkage split in the top (see photo) but overall it displays very nicely. There is some wear along the crease of the leather and some other minor marks in the interior but nothing untoward or detrimental.
