Product Details

A lovely country oak bureau dating from the late 18th Century. It has nice small proportions and stands on bracket feet. It has a sloped front with a raised reading stand and it comes with its original working key. There are two short over two long drawers, each with brass handles and matching brass escutcheons. Two pulls support the front which opens to reveal a series of small pigeon holes and drawers around a central cupboard. It also has a sliding well for extra storage.

It is in good condition for its age and the oak has developed a lovely rich colour over the years. It has been cleaned and gently polished, retaining the original patina. There are general signs of age and use, some minor knocks and marks, most notably a small chip to the corner of one drawer (see photo) and there have been a couple of old repairs but nothing untoward and no major damages. The interior is in good condition with a few old surface marks and ink stains but nothing detrimental and the whole piece is strong and sturdy. The drawers open smoothly and are generally clean and tidy inside.
