Set of 4 Georgian Suffolk Ball Back Chairs
A set of 4 Suffolk 'Ball Back' chairs dating from the late 18th / early 19th Century. They have dished seats standing on tapering square legs joined by a H-stretcher. The uprights enclose a double bar support with the distinctive balls between them, a regional design specific to East Anglia.
The chairs stand approximately 33" (84cm) high. The seats are 14 1/2" (37cm) deep, 18 1/2" (47cm) wide and 16" (41cm) high.
They are in good condition with a lovely colour and patina. They are strong and sturdy although they have had some repairs over the years. There are signs of age and use with some minor marks, knocks and shrinkage splits but overall they display well. There are signs of historic worm in various places which has all been treated as a precaution. The chairs have been gently cleaned and polished and are ready for use.
