Product Details

A good quality mahogany carver chair dating from the early 19th century. It is a typically stylish regency design - a gently curving back with rope twist top, sabre legs and reeded lined detail. This continuous curving line formed by the sides of the back, the seat rail and the chair legs are essential features of a 'Trafalgar' chair. This design was popular around 1810 with naval references, such as the rope-twist back rail, having been popular in the time of Lord Nelson. It has a drop-in seat pad which has been recently upholstered in a beautiful red leather.

The chair stands approximately 33" (84cm) high and is 21" (53cm) wide arm to arm. The seat is 19" (48cm) deep and 18 1/2" (47cm) high.

The chair is in very good condition for its age with a beautiful rich patina. It has been well looked after and maintained over the years and as such has a few good old repairs but nothing detrimental and the chair is strong and sturdy. The chair has been cleaned and polished and is ready for use.
