Product Details

A good example of an early American rocking chair dating from the beginning of the 19th Century. It is a primitive ladderback design with two shaped splats. It stands on square legs joined by turned stretchers that sit on long shaped rockers. It retains its original woven hickory splint seat and original red painted finish which has worn attractively over the years to create a wonderful patina.

It is in good original condition and is strong and sturdy with no signs of worm. There are of course signs of age and use, some marks and light knocks and wear to the paint but no major damages or anything detrimental. The original seat is showing signs of wear and there are some breaks to some of the strips (see photo) but overall it displays well.

It is a small size, either for a small adult or large child! The chair stands approximately 34 1/4" (87cm) high. The rockers are 26" (66cm) long and 18 1/2" (47cm) wide.
