Large Victorian Mahogany Chest of Drawers
A beautiful mahogany chest of drawers dating from the mid to late 19th Century. They are a particularly large set and most likely originate from Scotland. They have an unusual arrangement of three small drawers above two short and three long drawers. Each drawer has brass plate handles flanked by reeded columns with inlaid strung decoration. The row of small drawers have matching chequerboard strung borders and the top edge has a crossbanded border. The chest stands on nicely shaped ogee bracket feet. It is an excellent quality piece with a lovely rich grain and patina and a solid panelled back.
It is in very good condition for its age and displays well. The drawers open smoothly and are generally clean and tidy inside. There are some minor signs of age and use, a few small knocks and marks and some small old repairs but nothing untoward or detrimental. The chest has been cleaned and gently polished and is ready for use.
