A beautiful Victorian apothecary's bottle holder. It is a particularly large example turned from sycamore. The removable top is threaded and the base is stamped "16oz".
These bottle holders were used by travelling doctors to avoid the possibility of breakage that an unprotected bottle would have been susceptible to.
It is in very good condition for its age and displays well. The wood has developed a beautiful colour and patina through years of use. There are some minor knocks and marks and small shrinkage splits but nothing detrimental.
