A lovely antique candle or taper box dating from the early to mid 19th Century. It is a particularly large size and was probably from a church or country house. It is made of oak with a sliding lid and a heart-shaped hole in the back to allow it to be hung on a wall. It is well made with a chamfered lid and a lovely colour and patina.
It is in good condition for its age. There are signs of age and use, a few small marks, minor knocks and splits but no major damages. There are a couple of old repairs and some signs of historic worm which has all been treated as a precaution and overall it displays well. It has been cleaned and gently polished and is ready for use.
