Product Details

A good example of an antique mahogany campaign desk dating from the early 20th Century. It is a traditional pedestal desk made in three parts with 1 long map drawer below the writing surface and a further 6 smaller drawers in the pedestals. There are small internal brass latches to lock the parts in place.

The top of the desk has a good quality green leather writing surface with a gilt tooled edge. There are small inset brass holes around the edge where it would have once had a removable gallery. Each drawer has its original flush brass inset handles and the desk stands on turned bun feet.

Some of the drawer locks have been replaced over its life but the original ones are stamped “Graves & Son, Devonport”.

The desk is a particularly large size for a campaign piece and it has ample leg clearance in the kneehole measuring 24 1/2" / 62cm high and 20" / 50cm wide.

The desk is in very good condition for its age and it has a lovely colour and patina. It has been recently repolished and the leather has been replaced. The drawers open smoothly and are generally clean and tidy inside. There are some signs of age and use, some general light marks and knocks and a couple of old repairs but nothing detrimental.

Approximate Measurements :

Height : 31” / 79cm

Width : 55 1/2” / 141cm

Depth : 29 1/2" / 75cm
