Large 18th Century Four Panel Oak Coffer
A good example of a large 18th Century english oak coffer. It has a plain four panel front with panelled sides and a flat top. The lid opens on its original ring hinges to a plain interior with a boarded floor.
It is in good original condition and has developed a beautiful rich patina. It has avoided ever being overcarved and is a well balanced example. There are signs of age and use, some old stains and marks on the top surface and some shrinkage splits in the side panels but nothing untoward or detrimental. There are signs of historic worm in the bottom of the feet and the base but it has all been treated as a precaution and hasn't affected the piece structurally or aesthetically. It has been cleaned and gently polished and is ready for use.
