Product Details

A good example of a Georgian Welsh oak dresser dating from the early 19th century. The base contains three drawers above three panelled cupboards, each with its original brass knobs and brass escutcheons. The cupboards open to reveal a shelved interior and the original planked floor. In an unusual feature, the central cupboard contains wooden pegs that lock both side cupboards when pushed across. The dresser has its original plate rack with three generous sized shelves with grooves to support the plates. The rack has a fully planked back with the original wide pine boards and 1842 is faintly painted on one board.

It is an excellent quality piece and it is in very good condition throughout. It is not without signs of age and use but this has all helped to develop a beautiful rich patina over the years. There are a couple of old stains and marks on the top surface and a couple of old repairs here and there but nothing detrimental or untoward. There are no major damages, the drawers open well and the interior is generally clean and tidy. Some very minor signs of historic worm in some of the back boards but nothing to concern us. The dresser has been given a thorough clean and gentle polish and is ready for use.
