Product Details

A good example of a Welsh oak dresser dating from the late 18th / early 19th century. The dresser has three drawers above an open potboard base with a nicely shaped frieze. Each drawer has brass plate handles and it stands on nicely shaped chamfered legs. It has its original plate rack with 2 open shelves with grooves for standing up plates and many of its original blacksmith made hooks. The rack looks as though it has been reduced in height at some point in its life but this does make it useful for lower ceilings.

It is a good quality piece and has been constructed from well figured timbers. It is in good condition throughout and is strong and sturdy with no major damages. It is not without some signs of age and use and some light marks and old stains on the surface but this has all helped to develop a beautiful rich patina over the years. The drawers are generally clean and tidy and all open smoothly, with some having had the bases replaced at some point. There are some signs of historic worm in the legs which has all been treated as a precaution and hasn't affected the dresser structurally or aesthetically. It has been given a clean and gentle polish and is ready for use.
