Product Details

A good example of a large oak mule chest with a drawer to the base, dating from the mid to late 18th Century. It has a traditional panelled front and panelled sides and top. It is a plain example which has avoided being overcarved and has a lovely warm patina. The lid opens to reveal a large storage area with a candle box and its original ring hinges. The initials E and R and carved on the front and it is likely that this was given as a marriage gift.

It is in good original condition throughout and is strong and sturdy. The back is clean and the hinges are strong. The drawer opens smoothly and the interior is generally clean and tidy with a few small old marks. The handles on the drawer have been changed at some point but suit the piece well. There have been a few old repairs and restorations and there are signs of age and use with some minor marks and knocks here and there but nothing detrimental and no major damages. There has been some historic worm in places which has all been treated as a precaution. It has been cleaned and gently polished and is ready for use.
