Product Details

A superb Georgian mahogany tilt-top table in the Chippendale style, dating from the late 18th Century. It has a large, well figured top made from a single piece of mahogany with a with a finely carved piecrust edge. It stands on a turned baluster column with wrythen carving and three cabriole legs carved to the knee. The legs terminate in pad feet with matching carving and the original brass barrel wheels below.

It is an excellent quality piece with a lovely rich colour and patination and it is strong and sturdy with a good level top. The tilting mechanism is smooth with a strong catch. The table is slightly lower than a full size table but there are no signs that it has ever been lowered or reduced in height so we can only assume that it was either made to a shorter specification or it has had a rotating bird cage mechanism removed at some point.

It is in very good condition for its age. There are some minor signs of age, a few small surface marks but nothing detrimental and there are no major damages. It has been gently polished and displays beautifully and is ready for use.
