A lovely Georgian candle box dating from the early 19th Century. It is made of mahogany with an inlaid shell motif on the front and a chequer banded border. It is a tapering shape with a hinged lid and a raised fretwork gallery.
It is in good condition for its age with a lovely patina. There are signs of age and use, a few small knocks and marks, an old repair to the fretwork (see photo) and a couple of old shrinkage splits but nothing detrimental. It is possible that the base has been replaced at some point in its life but it still displays well. It has been cleaned and lightly polished and is ready for use.
