Product Details

A good example of a Georgian mahogany bureau dating from the late 18th / early 19th Century. It has nice small proportions and a lovely rich patina. It has a sloped front above four drawers, each with brass swan neck handles and it stands on bracket feet. Two pulls support the front which opens to reveal a series of small pigeon holes and drawers around a central cupboard with a leather writing surface.

It is in good condition for its age and is strong and sturdy. The mahogany has developed a wonderful rich colour and it has been cleaned and gently polished to retain the original patina. There are some general signs of age and use, some knocks and marks, minor splits and some small old repairs but no major damages. The drawers open smoothly and are generally clean and tidy inside. The interior is in good condition with a few old surface marks and stains but nothing detrimental and there is a key for the interior cupboard. There are some signs of historic woodworm which has all been treated as a precaution and hasn't affected the piece structurally or aesthetically.
