A lovely set of mahogany steps dating from the early 19th century. They stand on square tapering legs with a green canvas tread on each step and brass plate handles on the fronts. The top step hinges open to provide storage and there is a pretty inlaid strung border on the fronts of each step.
They would have originally been used to get into a particularly high bed but would also work very well as library steps.
They are excellent quality and they have a wonderful patina showing nice wear on each tread and a lovely rich colour. The handles are not original but suit the piece well.
They are in good condition and are strong and sturdy. There are some small knocks, surface marks and minor signs of age and use but no major damages. There are a few minor signs of historic worm in the back which has all been treated as a precaution. The steps have been cleaned and gently polished and are ready for use.
