A good antique elm blanket box dating from the early 19th century with a lovely rich patina. It is well made and stands on small bracket feet. The hinged lid opens on its original strap hinges and has a small candle box inside. A good size for a coffee table, end of the bed storage or toy trunk.
It is in good condition for its age. It is strong and sturdy and generally clean and tidy inside. There are signs of use and age, some general knocks and marks and a few small chips and splits but nothing untoward. There is a slight warp to the lid but it isn't detrimental. There are signs of old woodworm which has all been treated as a precaution and hasn't affected the box structurally or aesthetically. It has been cleaned and gently polished and is ready for use.
