Product Details

A nice example of a large mahogany collector's box dating from the early 20th century. Most likely to have once been a cutlery box it has now been relined in blue silk and velvet with fitted compartments. The sectioning can be removed or modified to suit a variety of uses from collecting coins and medals to storing jewellery.

The box has inlaid crossbanded borders and an inlaid marquetry cartouche. There are two pillars across the drawers which are held in place by brass pins in the lid, meaning they can't be opened when the box is closed. Each drawer has pretty art nouveau style brass handles and there are matching side handles. There is a maker's name in the top of the box for Walker & Hall and it comes with a working key.

It is in good condition for its age and has been very well made and looked after. There are some minor signs of age and use, some light surface marks and knocks but nothing detrimental and it displays well. The interior is clean and tidy. It has been gently cleaned and polished and is ready for use.
