Antique Walnut Writing Slope with Secret Drawers
A lovely Victorian walnut writing slope with brass corners, a brass cartouche and matching escutcheon. The cartouche is engraved "G.A.Manwaring, 1901" and it comes with a working key.
Inside, the box is fitted with a leather writing surface with a gilt tooled edge. It comes with a pair of glass inkwells, a pen tray and there is a small stamp slope and lidded compartment. There is a secret compartment with 3 small hidden drawers below the leather surface that springs open by lifting a piece of wood next to the inkwell.
The box is in very good condition for its age with a beautiful patina. The leather writing surface is showing some signs of age and is worn along the crease but still looks good inside the box and is very usable. There are some minor old knocks and marks around the outside of the box but nothing detrimental and overall it displays beautifully.
