A beautiful turned wood and vegetable ivory thimble holder in the form of a novelty eggcup. It is well made with raised stud detail on the base and applied bone strips. The 'egg' part unthreads to reveal a shaped thimble holder within and it even comes with a sterling silver thimble, hallmarked for Birmingham 1929.
It is a good quality piece with a beautiful patina. It is in good condition for its age. There is an old glued repair to the base (see photo) and there's some wear and small holes in the top of the silver thimble but no major damages and it displays well.
