An original theodolite or Surveyor's level dating from the early 20th Century. The Theodolite itself has a gun metal finish and is made from lacquered brass with brass fittings. It is engraved with the maker "No.520. J&W.E Archbutt. 201 Westminster Bridge Road, London".

It is a high quality instrument with an extendable telescope, two spirit levels, a large compass and adjustment screws in the base to ensure it is exactly level. It screws into a mount that could then sit atop a tripod.

It is in good condition and displays well. The theodolite lenses are undamaged and they focus well with a good range and clarity. There are some small knocks and surface marks and some tarnishing to the brass and wear to the lacquer in places but nothing untoward or detrimental.
