A lovely antique writing slope dating from the early to mid 19th Century. The exterior is veneered with rosewood and the top is beautifully inlaid with an intricate wide brass border and central cartouche topped with an eagle.
The top section lifts up to reveal a pen tray a stamp slope and a lidded compartment. The sloped front then folds down to reveal a lovely coral coloured leather writing slope with gilt tooled edging. The top part of the writing slope lifts up to give extra storage space below and it comes with its original working key.
The box is excellent quality and
in good condition for its age. It has been lightly cleaned and polished and it displays very well inside and out. There are some minor signs of age and use but no major damages. There are some minor shrinkage splits and a couple of old repairs but nothing detrimental.
