Product Details

A large pine storage trunk dating from the late 19th / early 20th Century. It was most likely a military piece and it has metal carrying handles and protective strapping on the corners and edges. It has two locks and oval brass escutcheons although there are no keys and one escutcheon is missing.

The interior is fully lined in zinc and has its original maker's label "W.J. Lovelace & Son, Trunk, Portmanteau & Case Makers. Makers, Patentees & Inventors of the Air Tight Zinc Lined Chest for India & The Colonies"

It is very well made and has a lovely colour and patina. It's a great size for a coffee table or end of the bed storage.

It is in very good condition for its age and is strong and sturdy. There are some signs of age and use, some small knocks and marks, a couple of minor stains and some wear to one metal corner but nothing detrimental. The interior is clean and tidy. There are a couple of minor historic woodworm holes but it hasn't affected it structurally or aesthetically. It has been cleaned and lightly polished and it is ready for use.
