Product Details

A lovely mahogany desk dating from the late 19th Century. It is a pedestal desk with 2 large drawers below the writing surface and a further 6 small drawers in the pedestals. The drawers have small turned wooden knobs and the desk stands on turned bun feet. The top of the desk has an inset leather writing surface with gilt tooled edge. There is a raised gallery around the edge which sits in small holes on brass pegs so as it can be easily removed for transport.

It was likely a military or naval piece and typical of campaign style furniture it is excellent quality and very solidly built. It is a good small size whilst still having ample room to sit at and the kneehole measures 24 1/2" (62cm) high x 17 1/2" (45cm) wide.

The desk is in very good condition for its age and has been recently repolished. It has a lovely rich patina and the leather is in good condition. The drawers open smoothly and are generally clean and tidy inside. There are of course some signs of age and use, some general marks, light knocks and an old repaired split on one inside panel but nothing detrimental or untoward. It has been cleaned and polished and is ready for use.
