Product Details

A lovely set of large antique balance beam scales dating from the late 19th century. The scales are made of brass with two brass pans suspended by chain. The scales screw into the top of the box for easy use wherever they would have been set up and the components pack away into the drawer below.

The beam is marked "Class B. To Weigh 5oz" and there is a maker's plaque on the box for "De Grave, Short & Co Ltd. Makers. 102, Naylor Road, London, S.E.15"

The scales with various antique brass weights measuring in troy ounces and dwts.
The scales are in very good condition and display well. The brass has tarnished slightly over time and there are signs of age and use and some minor marks on the box but nothing detrimental. Although complete, they are really being sold as a decorative collectors item rather than an accurate scientific instrument.
