Antique Brass Surveyor's Level by W&S Jones
A good example of an early 19th Century surveyor's level. It is made of lacquered brass and the makers name is engraved on the base "W & S Jones. 30 Holborn. London". There is a spirit level below the main telescope and a large screw under the front which adjusts the angle. The base has a hole for a tripod or stand and another screw for securing this into place.
It is in good condition and displays well. The lenses are undamaged and have a good clarity. There are some small knocks and surface marks and some wear and tarnishing to the brass but nothing detrimental for its age.
It comes in its original pine box with a fitted interior and metal closing hooks. The box has a hand written inscription below the lid "Sept 18th 1803. New W-13".
The box is in good order with a few knocks and marks but no major damages.
