A lovely mahjong set dating from the early to mid 20th Century, contained within its original wooden case. The pieces are made from bone (bovine) and bamboo
joined with a nicely cut dovetail joint with the symbols and pictures finely carved into the bone. There is a complete set of 144 tiles plus a further 4 spare blank tiles and 4 joker tiles. The tiles measure approx 27mm x 20mm x 13mm high. There are also 4 small dice and a round season selector.
The components of the game are kept in a specially made wooden box with sliding lid. The box measures approx 11 1/4" (29cm) long x 7" (18cm) wide x 2" (5cm) high.
The whole set is in very good condition for its age. There are general light signs of wear and use and some minor discolouration on the pieces but the joints on the pieces are in good tight order and are very usable.
The box is strong and sturdy. There are minor signs of age and wear and a shrinkage split along the top but nothing detrimental and it displays nicely.
