18th Century Oak Court Cupboard

A good example of an English oak court cupboard dating from the early 18th Century. It is made in two parts, the top section with two small cupboards below an overhanging canopy with turned urn shaped finials. The lower half has two larger cupboard doors which open to a shelved interior.

It is a very primitive piece and shows its age with a pegged construction and thick rough hand-sawn wood on the back. However it is good quality and very well made with panelled sides and moulded fronts to the cupboard doors and drawers.

It is in good condition for its age and it has developed a beautiful patina. It is strong and sturdy and the interior is generally clean and tidy. There are of course signs of age and use, some knocks and marks and there have been some repairs over the years but nothing untoward or detrimental. There are some signs of historic woodworm which has all been treated as a precaution and hasn't affected the piece structurally or aesthetically.
