Product Details

A good example of a small 'Jones' type folding botanical microscope, dating from the late 18th Century. The microscope is made of lacquered brass and folds compactly. Its long brass arm has a sprung piece of brass below which allows for the forceps to be moved backwards and forwards, focusing the specimen.

The microscope measures approximately 4" (10cm) from the bottom of the handle to top of the lens when folded out. The arm is 2 3/4" (7cm) long.

The microscope is in good condition for its age. It has been well used and has normal signs of wear and age. The brass has tarnished over time and the handle has discoloured slightly with age. There are some small knocks and light marks around the piece but nothing detrimental. The lenses have small specks of dirt on and although in working order it is really being sold as a decorative / collectors item rather than an accurate scientific instrument.
