17th Century Oak Coffer
A good example of a small english Oak Coffer dating from the late 17th Century. It has a traditional panelled construction standing on four tall block feet. The front is decorated with a carved frieze rail and further circular carvings in the centre of the front panels. The lid opens on its original ring hinges and the boarded interior has a small lidded candle compartment.
The coffer is in good condition for its age and has developed a beautiful rich patina. There are some signs of age and use, some knocks and marks, some minor shrinkage splits and some minor damages to the metal lock plate but nothing detrimental. There are some signs of historic worm in places and some wear to the bottom of the feet but nothing untoward and it displays very well. It has been cleaned and gently polished and is ready for use.
