18th Century Welsh Oak Court Cupboard
*RESERVED*
A superb Welsh oak court cupboard dating from the early 18th Century, or even into the late 17th century. It is made in two parts, the top section with three small cupboards below an overhanging canopy with turned ball finials. The lower half has three drawers above two large cupboard doors and it stands on stile legs.
It is a very primitive piece and shows its age with a pegged construction and thick rough hand-sawn wood on the back. It is good quality and well made with panelled sides and moulded fronts to the cupboard doors and drawers.
It is in good condition for its age and it has a beautiful patina. It is strong and sturdy and the interior is generally clean and tidy. There are of course signs of age and use, some light knocks and marks, splits and there have been some repairs over the years but nothing untoward or detrimental. There are some signs of historic woodworm which has all been treated as a precaution and hasn't affected the piece structurally or aesthetically.
